It is with great pleasure that the Board of the Denman Island Memorial Society announces the opening of the Denman Island Natural Burial Cemetery.
Green Beginnings
The Cemetery group came together in early 2009 and became a charitable society within the following few months. Since then we have worked steadily to complete the myriad steps involved in creating a new cemetery.
Throughout the project we have maintained a close relationship with the Denman Conservancy Association, which donated the property for the cemetery and holds a conservation covenant on the land. And we consulted frequently with residents of Denman Island community, incorporating their ideas into Cemetery design.
Denman Island Natural Burial Cemetery is the first newly created, exclusively green cemetery in Canada.
