Age 92

With heavy hearts we announce our father’s passing. 

Ben passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29 2024 at Irene Thomas Hospice in Ladner BC. He came to Canada from the Netherlands with his wife in 1957 to start their life together. His career started with building houses in Richmond, he then worked for the department of highways and then with BC Ferries where he retired as superintendent of dock maintenance. He is survived by his daughter’s Linda (Chris) and Janice (Neil) his son’s Bob (Alyssa) and David. His grandchildren Samantha (Dustin), Kelsi (Lee), Lyndsay, Kyle and Olivia and his great grandchildren Miily and Rhys. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Anne.

    Dear Linda ,Bob,Janice, and further family ,

    All our sympathy for loss your father, father in law and grandfather . When we saw ome Bas in Canada or in the Netherlands , he was always very friendly to us . He stayed with my parents very often when he was in Holland and they had a very good time together. Those are great memories!
    We wish you the best of luck in the near future with each other !

    My sincere condolences to the DeBruin Family. What sad news. I have many happy memories of going to your house when we lived in Richmond. And many happy memories of all of them – Pat, Henk, Adriana, Bill Williamson laughing so loud. May he rest in peace. Love Yvonne

    To Janice and other family members ,

    We sympathize with you … becouse of the passing of ome Bas .
    As Ilonka said… he often stayed at our parents house when he was in Holland .
    He also stayed in our house in Stolwijk with Linda once . And indeed he was always very friendly and grateful for help .
    In 1983 I was in Canada for 3 months and them stayed with ome Bas and tante Annie and they were very hospitable !
    But I stayed at Linda’s place for the longest time .
    I had the time of my life !!
    We will always remember him and your Mother .

    Dear family,
    We are very sad to hear that “Ome Bas” has passed away. We send you our sincere condoleancis.
    We remember him as a very nice person. We are thankful for the hospitallity he and his wife gave us when we visited Vancouver in 1976.
    We met him often when he visited Ameide and we had very nice conversations!
