Sadly, Douglas Alan Murphy passed away after a painful struggle with diabetes on March 24th at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster.

Doug was fifty-seven years old and born in Vancouver. He grew up in Burnaby with his loving parents Mary and George, sister Heather and brother Andrew.  Shortly after graduation from Burnaby South Secondary he moved to Vernon where he worked as a locksmith. He loved his friends and many teams he played on in Vernon. He moved back to Coquitlam to help look after his mom when she got sick. Doug missed his mom after she passed in 2010 and then his dad after he passed in 2021.

In the past few years diabetes severely restricted his mobility and he required hospital care. Heather and her husband Mark and their daughters Emmalee and Hannah helped him, went out for weekly dinners and enjoyed their nightly chats.  Mark, Doug’s high school friend Dale, cousin Jamie, and Mike remained his loyal friends and he was so thankful for their friendship.

Doug loved sitting out in the sun in White Rock or New West feeding the crows. Doug’s kind hearted advice, wild stories and fun sense of humour are greatly missed.

We love you Doug xoxo

Doug was always the life of the party. While I had not seen or spoke to him for many years, we recently reconnected through his many hospital stays. Although he had many health challenges, he still maintained his comical sense of humour. Doug is also survived by his loving brother Andrew whom I know he loved very much, sister in law Lisa, nieces Vanessa, Caitlin and nephew Riley. May you finally rest in peace and good health Doug, you will be missed by many. Happy first heavenly birthday to you. xoxo
