Esterina Bonni

BONNI, Esterina.  It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Esterina on September 21, 2023. Loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother for whom family was at the core of everything.

She was born in Bisaccia, Avellino, Italy on November 3,1937 and in November 1966 she, her husband Antonio and daughters, Antonietta (4) and Angela (2) immigrated to Canada. Franca was born in 1969 in Vancouver and four years later the family settled in Burnaby.

She was predeceased by her parents, Antonietta and Francesco, siblings Flora (Bisaccia, Avellino) and Tony (Vancouver), infant daughter Maria Ripalda (Torino, Italy) and son-in-law Brett.

Survived by loving husband Antonio, daughters Antonietta (Don), Angela, Franca (Joe), and her loving grandchildren Christina (Robin), Rebecca (Rhys), Liam, Samuel, Jacob and great granddaughter, Gabriella. We love you Nonna.  Also survived by sister Adelina (Emilio) from Hartford, Connecticut and sister-in-law Dina, and a very large extended family in Bisaccia and Torino, Italy, U.S., Vancouver, Toronto and Hamiton, and many cherished friends in Burnaby.

We were loved. Her hugs and kisses, her homemade sweets, pasta, pizza and sugo will live on in our hearts. We will always remember the songs she sang to us, her thoughtful advice, and of course her warnings to be careful because of a bad dream she had the night before. Most of all, she loved our family trips to Parksville which are memories that we will carry forever.

Whether knitting, painting, or tending to her flowers, she always made time to be creative. We will treasure her many blankets and dish cloths. Our flowers this spring will bloom yellow; reminding us all of her favourite color. 

She will be missed by her many cherished friends; especially her dearest Lucia. Although miles apart, mom and her sister Adelina, shared endless phone calls, exchanging family stories and reminiscing about their childhood. 

You will forever live on in our hearts, in our memories, and in the many poems by your loving husband, Antonio. 

Catholic funeral service at Our Lady of Sorrows, 555 Slocan Street, Vancouver on Tuesday, October 3 at 11:00am.  Interment will follow at Ocean View Funeral Home & Burial Park for immediate family.
