March 27, 1925 – July 4, 2023
After 98 years of a life well lived, our mother passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her four daughters: Susan Chapman (Jerry), Sheelagh Sweitzer (John), Pamela O’Brien (Jack Bjork) Mary Gillis (David Berson), along with 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and a large extended family. Her son, Graham, died in 1973.
Gwyneth was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. She moved to Vancouver in 1949 with her husband, Dr. John Gillis. She was a dedicated mother and homemaker with a sparkling sense of humour. She loved music, dancing, storytelling, animals and was a talented cook and created beautiful environments. She volunteered and supported many charities over the years and served on the altar guild for St. Faith’s Anglican parish. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over 45 years.
In 1977 she married George Durose, who passed away in 1984.
The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers at Sunrise Residence for the support they gave our mother over the past five years.
Gwyneth’s memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 2nd in St. Faith’s Anglican Church (7284 Cypress St. Vancouver, BC V6P 5M3.)
