I’m so sorry to hear of Lance’s passing. Even though it had been decades since I last saw him this news has left me very, very sad. Him and I both lost our dads when they were in thier 50’s and both to cancer. This all hits so close to home. I was with my dad for his last 2 months and I understand the heart ache involved with losing someone this way. I’m very sorry for your loss. I wish I had gotten to see you guys before all this happened❤️

When I heard Lance has passed away I was very surprised and saddened. I went to Elementary School (Old Yale Road E.S.), Junior and Senior high school with him, but I remember him most from elementary. And I remember him as contributing to a positive atmosphere where we were. In grade 4, in Mrs. Carter’s class, Lance and one other boy (can’t remember for sure – was it Dennis Nash?) were asked to stand in front of the class one afternoon, when we got in from lunch. Mrs. Carter then sternly warned us of the dangers of rough play on the swings and teeter totters, and that these things can cause damage. “Lance, show everyone what I mean”. And Lance smiles and shows us all a front tooth chipped clean in half. The way he showed it, matter-of-factly and a little bit proud of the war wound with little show of concern for seeking first aid, made me think of him “you know what? He’s all right.” He had a tough-looking exterior, and he indeed was quite tough, but he was always decent and never talked down to anyone nor did he pick fights. He preferred peace, but he clearly had a sense of mischief yet was very loyal to his friends and treated them like family. And that is how I will remember him.
