It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Mike Bradley.
Richard Michael (Mike) Bradley died on April 20, 2023 at the age of 95, at Sunrise of Vancouver, where he had lived for the past year and 9 months after moving from his long-time home in Tsawwassen.
Mike was a gracious, charming, charismatic, decent and kind gentleman who could also wield a mischievous sense of humour. He loved his family, his friends and his wonderous flying careers. Mike first flew with the Royal Air Force, then came to Canada and joined the RCAF. After a full career in the military, Mike continued to fly as a M.O.T. civil aviation inspector. He adored flying.
Mike is predeceased by his brothers and sisters and by his wife of 58 years, the amazing Mollie, who he loved beyond all measure. Mike’s dog, Sumi, is relishing his twilight years with Mike’s wonderful niece Sandra and her partner Bob. Mike will be greatly missed and remembered always by his family, including his daughter Amanda Bradley and her partner Jim Sibley, sisters-in-law: Nancy England and Rachel Bradley, nieces and nephews, and by many friends.
Mike very much enjoyed time spent with his family of attachment including Karen Maires, long-time neighbors, long-time friends and work colleagues, and the compassionate folks at Sunrise of Vancouver.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. If you wish to make a Memorial donation, please consider the BC SPCA or your local animal welfare organization.
My Dad collected quotes that resonated with him. Here is one by Mahatma Gandhi that feels especially poignant at this time:
“There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart.”
Among the flying poems and writings, this grace was one of Dad’s favourites:
THE AIRMAN’S GRACE
Lord of thunderhead and sky
Who placed in man the will to fly,
Who taught his hand speed, skill and grace
To soar beyond man’s dwelling place.
You shared with him the eagle’s view.
The right to soar as eagles do,
The right to call the clouds his home,
And grateful through your heavens roam.
May all assembled here tonight,
And all who love the thrill of flight,
Recall with twofold gratitude,
Your gift of Wing, Your gift of food.

I am so very sorry. I knew of Mike’s love of flying, but a lovely memory for me was Mike showing me his snazzy bicycle before bicycles were snazzy & touring the neighbourhood with him. Both Mike & Mollie were such gracious hosts – letting me land on their doorstep after meeting me in Ontario. Sending hugs & love to Amanda & family.

Mike was my brother in law. He married my sister Mollie in 1956 after a whirlwind courtship that was the beginning of a devoted relationship that was lifelong. I admired Mike’s sense of discipline and ethics. I enjoyed his gracious lifestyle and he always welcomed me onto his home . Mike was the ultimate gentleman. He was a reconstruct who told wonderful stories . I will miss hearing his voice and seeing his smile. We loved him and will miss him
