Paul slipped quietly away at the North Shore Hospice in North Vancouver having been visited in his final days by friends and family. He was a devoted husband to Audrey (née Patterson) for sixty years, loving father to Lara (Justin) and Taras (Erin), and “GranPaul” to his grandsons Desmond and Victor. Paul was the son of Christina and George Grescoe, and a younger brother to Lorraine, Eleanor, and the late Donna Grescoe.
Born in Winnipeg’s North End, Paul became a reporter as a teenager, and in his long career he wrote for the Canadian Press, the Brandon Sun, the Hamilton Spectator, the Winnipeg Tribune, and the Toronto Telegram, before becoming an editor and roving staff writer for the Canadian Magazine and Maclean’s. He was a co-founder and editorial director of Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton magazines, and the author or co-author of 20 books, including anthologies of Canadian correspondence (co-written with Audrey), business books, biographies and two novels about his Ukrainian-Canadian detective Dan Rudnicki. As an editor and publisher, he nourished and encouraged generations of freelance writers.
Paul’s talent for story-telling, along with his curiosity, enterprising nature, compassion, decency, and sense of humour, enriched the lives of those around him. He is deeply missed.

Sincere Condolences to Audrey and family. Paul’s passing has brought back many fond memories from my past, Paul and I went on many assignments for the Canadian Magazine. I always enjoyed his company and enthusiasm. Bridget and David Clark
